I Don’t Have An Attitude Problem,
You Have A Perception Problem!

by Roz Trieber, MS, CHES

Attitude is everything.  It determines success or failure.  Mae West lived into her eighties believing she was twenty, and it never occurred to her that her arithmetic was lousy.

The key to the palace is not under the mat.  It is in your attitude.  You choose your attitude.  Attitude is your responsibility.  How willing and able are you to invest your time and energy with whole heartedness to perform one act of kindness, make somebody’s day with a smile or a story about the beauty of sharing life’s milestones?  The only thing that is real is perception.  Humor is your unique vision of life, your struggles, your losses and your recovery by discovering and appreciating absurd ideas that allow you to laugh at life.

Humor is attitude.  It is a way of thinking, an approach, an outlook, and a mindset, even your thoughts.  Humor is a form of enjoyment.   Humor researcher, Paul McGhee, describes humor in the following way: “We are enjoying an experience that does not fit our mental patterns.”  Humor often thrives on the negative condition.  It gives you an opportunity to be at odds with the rules of “official society.”   Humor helps you laugh at yourself, create solutions, reduce tension, build confidence and bring joy to others.

Can you change your attitude to Humortude?  Life really can be a bowl of cherries without the pits!
