  • Heidi Most, M.Ac., L.Ac., Dipl.Ac. (NCCAOM) - acupuncturist
    Heidi Most received her Masters of Acupuncture degree from the TAI Sophia Institute and my Diplomate in Acupuncture from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and am licensed to practice acupuncture in the State of Maryland. She is a certified Qi Gong instructor (through the Chan Zhang Qi Gong School), and a certified Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist. Heidi is also a faculty member of the Traditional Acupuncture Institute, a supervisor in the Faculty-supervised Student Clinics, and have taught Qi Gong in various businesses, schools and assisted living facilities.

    She combines acupuncture and Qi Gong (a Chinese meditative movement exercise) to help patients regain their natural state of health and well-being. She treats people with life threatening illnesses, and people in moderate to severe pain from acute and chronic conditions.

    1. How did cancer impact your life regarding how you live your life now?

    My Mom had cancer before you passed on.   

    1. What was your attitude towards dealing with your cancer, and health care team?

      It is  never easy to deal with such situation. However, after this experience
      of taking care of my mom, I have learned that we must stand calm, not
      focusing on the disease itself but instead focus on how to get well instead.

      Most importantly the care-giver must have extreme self-care on his/herself
      in order to be able to take care of the sick patient.

    Things to take extreme care are:

    1. Health
        - Take enough rest
       (though sometimes it may not be possible due to the demands of the patient)

       - Take supplements and vitamins to take care of your own immune system,
          take supplements that gives you energy, because you will need lots of it.

    2. Emotion
         - This is very important, because if you are emotionally down yourself,
           you will affect the patient and yourself too. Granted that you will feel
           depressed, because care-givers are also human beings, so be sure
           to use motivational, inspirational tools like books and audio messages
           to pep up your emotionally state.

    3. Delicate
        - If you have siblings, try and share chores among yourselves and not
          to take on everything by yourself.

                 

    What lessons did you learn from this experience?

         * Health is very important.

              * Our emotion is a vital factor to our entire health
                * Taking the right food and supplements are also important.
               * No matter what let loose and let go.
             

    1. Were you able to let go of behaviors or attitudes that prevented you from living in the present and making it the most positive experience possible?

    When I was the main care giver, it was hard. But now I do and have learned
    that letting go of behaviors that are not beneficial to you will help a lot.

    How did your having cancer or being a caregiver impact your friends, co-workers, and family?

    It does have a impact on the people around you. I have also learned that being

    Strong emotionally and physically is very important, and try not to depend
    totally on others to give you 100% support. If they give, fine, if not it is also fine.

    Don’t get so work up on it. Everybody has their own life to live.

    Did your purpose in life change and if so why or why not and how did it change?

    Yes. Have learned to take life on a lighter side.

    What role does prayer or meditation play in your coping with this disease?

    Prayer is good. But only depending on prayer and without action on our
    part will not bring results too. It has to be combined.

    1. What role does humor or wit play in your coping with this disease?

    Certainly it does help. Instead of focusing on the negative situation all
    the time, redirect your attention and focus to something more positive.
    Like reading motivation books, listen to motivational messages, music

    And talking to supporting friends and people around you will help
    a lot. Try to stay away from negative people.

    1. What would you want other cancer patients or their families and friends to know regarding living and not dying from cancer?
      It is sometimes hard to be positive when you are going through this journey.
      So I would recommend that, to help you to redirect you attention on yourself
      and your sickness, redirect your focus. Using brainwave technology,
      affirmation words to help alter your thoughts.

    1. Other comments  you would like to share:

      Stay strong, yes, it’s easier said then done, so that’s why I highly recommend
      you to use tool to alter your thoughts.
